DDR5 Memory Prices 2026: The Honest Guide to a $110 Jump After One Dip

Last Sunday, our tracked G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo 32GB kit fell to $559.99, the first price drop in our records. This Sunday it was $669.99, which is $20.00 higher than where we started tracking it on Sept 21.

If you held off buying memory because of that dip, you waited one week and the same kit cost $110.00 more. Here’s what happened to all three memory kits we track.

What We Found at Newegg This Week

Here’s what our Oct 11 check showed, using the sold-by-Newegg process described on our Methodology page:

The Trident’s four weekly checks read $649.99, $649.99, $559.99, and $669.99. The dip lasted exactly one week. Our position is simple: one week’s move isn’t a reason to delay a memory purchase or rush one, and the rest of this post is the reasoning.

From our Sunday check: What surprised us most this week was how many tracked products were out of stock. Six of our 22 had no in-stock, sold-by-Newegg listing. All three memory kits were in stock, so for memory the question this week was price.

Kit by Kit: What Moved

G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo 32GB: Up $110.00

Price: $669.99
Specs: 32GB (2x16GB), DDR5-6000, CL30, RGB
Best For: Builders who want CL30 timings on a 32GB kit. It’s the memory in our Apex Core build.
The Catch: At $20.94 per gigabyte, it’s the most expensive memory per gigabyte we track.

The jump took the Trident from the lowest price we’ve recorded for it to the highest. We don’t know why it moved, and we won’t guess. What we can say is that $559.99 on Oct 4 turned out not to be a new floor. Across all four checks, the net change since Sept 21 is $20.00 (3.1%), because the $90.00 drop and the $110.00 rise nearly cancel out.

Patriot Viper Venom 32GB: Down $20.00

Price: $459.99
Specs: 32GB (2x16GB), DDR5-6000, CL36
Best For: Anyone who wants 32GB at the lowest price we track. It’s the memory in our Mainstream Core build.
The Catch: CL36 timings are looser than the CL30 kits we track, and our RAM guides have called CL30 the sweet spot for AM5.

It costs $210.00 less than the Trident, or $14.37 per gigabyte. Whether CL30 is worth that gap is your call. Our read is that most gaming builds won’t miss the tighter timing, but we haven’t tested these two kits against each other, so take that as opinion.

G.SKILL Flare X5 16GB: Basically Flat

Price: $269.99
Specs: 16GB (2x8GB), DDR5-6000, CL30
Best For: Entry builds that don’t need 32GB. It’s the memory in our Entry Core build.
The Catch: At $16.87 per gigabyte, this 16GB kit costs more per gigabyte than the Patriot 32GB kit.

The $2.00 move is the smallest on the list, which makes the Flare the one kit that looked the same on both Sundays.

What This Means If You’re Buying Memory Right Now

  • Buy when your build is ready. The Trident fell $90.00 and then rose $110.00 in consecutive weeks, so waiting for a dip is a gamble with no edge.

  • Choosing between 32GB kits comes down to CL30 or CL36, and this week that choice is worth $210.00.

  • On a tight budget, price the 32GB kit before settling for 16GB. Per gigabyte, the Patriot 32GB is cheaper than the Flare 16GB.

Pricing a whole build? Our Build Cost Calculator on the Build Guides page uses these same verified numbers, and our three builds breakdown shows where memory lands in each.

The Verdict

Don’t plan a memory purchase around a one-week dip. The Trident gave us one, $559.99 on Oct 4, then $669.99 a week later. That’s four checks at one retailer, so we’re not calling a trend in either direction. If the Trident falls for three straight weeks, we’ll change our mind and say so. Until then, buy the kit your build needs when the build is ready.

Would you pay $210.00 more for CL30 over the cheaper CL36 kit? Tell us which one you’re buying and what it’s going into.
