What We're Actually Tracking, and Why It Changed

We used to pull pricing from whatever source ranked well that week. That was a mistake. A price you can't verify isn't data, it's a guess with a number attached.

Starting this week, we track the same seven fixed products, every Monday, from Newegg only. The number you see here is the lowest in-stock listed price for that exact product, at the time we checked. That's the whole rule.

This Week's Real Numbers

Memory

The G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 is priced at $559.99 this week.

TrendForce's latest industry forecast has DRAM contract prices rising 13–18% quarter-over-quarter through Q3, a real slowdown from Q1's record 90–95% QoQ jump, but still climbing, not falling.

Graphics Cards

Four cards, four very different stories:

RTX 5070: $867.61
RTX 5060 Ti 16GB: $779.99
RX 9060 XT 16GB: $499.99
RTX 5090: $6,885.99

The gap between the RX 9060 XT and the RTX 5070 right now is $367.62 for cards aimed at a similar tier, that's a real decision point, not a rounding error.

Storage

The WD Black SN850X 2TB (Gen 4) is priced at $390.86. The Crucial T705 2TB (Gen 5) is priced at $373.00.

What This Actually Means for a Build Right Now

Put these numbers together and a few things stand out.

Storage is genuinely the least painful category right now. A Gen 4 NVMe drive at $390 for 2TB is a reasonable price by any measure, this is the one line item in a build where you're not fighting the market.

The GPU tier is where the real decision lives. The RX 9060 XT at $499.99 costs 42% less than the RTX 5070 while landing in a similar performance class, that gap is wide enough to matter for most budgets.

Memory remains the most inflexible cost. There's no budget alternative the way there is with GPUs, a 32GB DDR5-6000 kit is a 32GB DDR5-6000 kit, and $519.99 is simply what it costs this week.

The Verdict

This week's numbers confirm what we've been tracking all month: GPUs and memory remain expensive with no relief in sight, while storage is the one category where pricing is genuinely reasonable. If you're planning a build, the RX 9060 XT's price gap versus the RTX 5070 is worth serious consideration unless you have a specific reason to need the extra headroom.
